MFAH- Bayou Bend History Camp

History Camp Classrooms Assistants help the camp instructors with the daily responsibilities of running a classroom. The volunteer must be comfortable working with children ages 9 – 12 years from a variety of different backgrounds. At no point will the volunteer act as the sole supervisor of the campers. Responsibilities include assisting with setup and breakdown of classroom materials, relaying messages to Bayou Bend staff from the classroom, and assisting camp instructors in maintaining order and organization during camp activities. Volunteers are asked to bring a sack lunch with them. Water and snacks provided. Interested parties must make arrangements to interview with the Bayou Bend Programs Manager before opportunity is awarded. Volunteer must commit to a full week of camp (9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Mon-Fri of the week).

Skills and Knowledge for the program: This opportunity is perfect for a high school or college student seeking a meaningful number of volunteer hours in a short period of time (40 hours). A friendly attitude and willingness to help where needed is a necessity for this position. Volunteers should be comfortable working both indoors and outdoors and have the ability to stand for long periods and walk over uneven terrain, occasionally for up to half a mile. Volunteers for this position must be able to provide their own transportation to and from Bayou Bend.
